First of all, a huge congratulations to my students for their successes this year. It's great when I hear about a well deserved A grade knowing all the hard work that was put in.

For the next group of GCSE students, this is now a perfect time to arrange some extra maths tuition for the year ahead. Private tuition is most effective when there is ample time to spend on understanding crucial concepts, as opposed to a 'patch-up' job much closer to the actual exam time.

People often wonder if private tuition is necessary seeing as there is such a huge amount of online material that can be downloaded and worked through. I would certainly agree that there are some really great resources online, but the real benefit to tuition is having someone who is experienced and able to see where the real root of a misunderstanding is.

For example, last year I had a parent who asked me to help her son improve his algebra. She had downloaded various problems and had put in a fair amount of time going through them with him, but he was still finding it tricky. After one lesson it became apparent to me that the root issue was actually with the concept of division and the manipulation of fractions, which was preventing him understanding the necessary steps in his algebra. So we spent time on that and as soon as he felt more confident with fractions, progress in algebra came much quicker.

As an incentive to potential new students, I am offering a free taster and assessment session for any new bookings between now and Monday the 12th September, subject to availability in my diary. As always I am happy to answer any questions over the phone... feel free to give me a call and let's talk maths!
